I used to think that cleaning a car involves grabbing some dish washing liquid, pour it with a bucket of water then use it to scrub the car’s paint with a dirty sponge I found inside the garage.

As I found out later on, that could do much more harm than good. Yes, dishwashing liquid can remove dirt and grime on your car, but it also removes the protective wax coating that protects your car’s paint – exposing it to the elements. It can also dull the paint if used for an extended period taking away its shine.

I’ll share with you some techniques I learned over the years which you can use for your car to keep it looking new and shiny.

Before you start you need to get the right tools to wash your car.

Buy a couple of wash mitts, a big microfiber towel, a gallon of car shampoo, a bucket (better if you can get the 5-gallon bucket), a 5 meter hose plus the nozzle attachment, wheel cleaner and a wheel brush and finally a Spray Wax – I’ll explain why you need this later in this article.

How to I wash my car the right way?

This is important! Make sure that the surface is cool before you start washing. You can only use on bucket, but I would suggest that you use two buckets. One bucket for the soapy water and the other for the clean water.

Always start with the wheels so that if you splash dirt from the wheels to the body, you can just rinse it off when you wash the body itself.

Don’t wash the wheels when they are hot, you risk damaging the rotors when you do that.

Using a wheel cleaner, spray a liberal amount on the wheels and tires, allow a few minutes to soak and loosen up dirt. Then with your wheel brush, scrub the dirt out gently and rinse, after you finish move to the next wheel then repeat the process.

Wash your car under a covered area so its nice and cool.

Now it’s time to wash your car. Pour in some car shampoo in a bucket then mix with water. The ratio will depend on the brand of car shampoo so its best that you read the label for instructions.

Rinse the vehicle first before soaping the car so you’ll take off loose dirt and dust on the surface. Start from the roof then make your way down. Rinse off soon after cleaning the car so that the car shampoo does not dry on the paint.

After you finish on the entire vehicle, dry as soon as possible so water spots will not form on the paint. Dry the car with a microfiber towel, always start from the roof then work your way down. Don’t forget to dry the door jambs.

Finally dry the wheels – make sure you use a separate towel for this as you don’t want to cross contaminate dirt from the wheels on to the paint.

Can you possible wash without water?

Never in a million years I thought this can be done but detailing gurus have made a product for this. A no-rinse wash that you just mix with water which is great if you live in cold cities or places with water restrictions or even drought. Heck you can now wash your car in your condominium or apartment unit.

You also use a two bucket method here – one bucket for the no-rinse wash solution and the other for clean water.

Just like a regular car wash you start with the wheels. Spray wheel cleaner on the wheels and tires, allow a few minutes for the cleaner to soak in to loosen up dirt and brake dust, then use the wheel brush to take off dirt then wipe with a microfiber towel. Always remember clean one wheel at a time.

After cleaning the wheels, move over to the car’s body.

Soak your wash mitt in the bucket with the no-rinse wash solution then start from the top working your way down. Gently rub the wash mitt on the section you are working on. After cleaning a section, dry it immediately with a microfiber towel before the solution dries up then move to the next section. Rinse the wash mitt well in a bucket of clean water after each section you clean so you don’t accumulate dirt on your wash mitt.

There are a lot of car owners out there who are very fond of their cars and will go through great lengths to help ensure that their cars are always nice and shiny. In fact, there are even people out there who have the notion that the cleanliness of their car reflects on the cleanliness of the owner. If you use your car regularly, going to the car wash during weekends to have it cleaned or whenever it gets dirty is only proper to help keep your car clean. The problem with this, however, is that it can be quite costly. If you invest in your own pressure washer, not only can you clean your car whenever you want to, but you also can save on fuel as you no longer need to drive to the car wash station. Instead, you will be doing your washing at the comforts of your own home.

A pressure washer is a specialized cleaning equipment that has been made to make cleaning surfaces much easier. It uses a pressurized stream of water that when directed to a solid surface, has enough power to remove most dirt off of it. The best thing about this cleaning equipment is that there are an assortment of attachments and accessories that can help you customize the stream of water to suit your cleaning needs. In fact, you will even find brush attachments that will allow you to brush and pressure wash the surface of your car at the same time.

If you have a pressure washer and will be using it for the first time to pressure wash your car, it is important to take note of how much Pounds per Square Inch (PSI) your unit has. This is because too much pressure has the capacity to damage and strip the paint off of your car. If your unit has just 1,000 to 1,500 PSI, then it is okay to use it without having to worry about damaging its paint. However, if your unit can generate more than that, you need to check if it has a pressure adjustment so that you could adjust its pressure accordingly. If it doesn’t, then it is suggested to make sure you attach a nozzle with a wider fan spray. It is also suggested to start pressure washing it at a distance of 10 feet to minimize the power of the pressurized water impacting your car. Then try closing down this distance until the desire cleaning effect is achieved. Try to remember and maintain this distance the whole time you pressure wash your car to help ensure that you do not damage the paint of your car.

The mobile vehicle detailing business is doing exceptionally well these days. It is no wonder as most of us are either too busy to give our cars a thorough cleanup once in a while. Another reason why many people find it a lucrative business is that it does not involve a huge investment. In fact, the best investment you need for this business is high-grade car wash equipment.

To ensure excellent cleaning results, customer satisfaction, and a flourishing vehicle detailing business, it is important to purchase the best car wash equipment from eminent suppliers. Only top-grade machines will be capable of accomplishing the results you expect without causing the slightest damage to vehicle surfaces. The most essential tools you will need to get started with this business are steam pressure cleaners, portable steam cleaners, and carpet cleaners.

Here is a closer look at each of these categories of car wash equipment:

Carpet cleaners: Leading distributors offer extensive ranges of highly advanced carpet cleaning machines. In addition to detailing the carpets in vehicles, these carpet shampooers can also be used to maintain upholstery, seats, and footwells. Although there are non-heated and heated versions, it is best to go for the heated carpet extractors to ensure exceptionally clean and deodorized car interiors. By ejecting low-moisture water at temperatures as high as 210F, these carpet cleaning machines dissolve the toughest dirt deposits and enable carpets to dry out in about 2 hours. By effectively removing all traces of mud, juice stains, and coffee spills, these carpet cleaners will help enhance the reputation of your detailing business.

Steam pressure washers: It takes lot of scrubbing and wiping to get vehicle surfaces squeaky clean and gleaming. However, with the help of advanced car wash equipment such as steam pressure cleaners, it is possible to attain superior cleaning results without exerting too much pressure. Because these steam car wash machines have been specifically designed to tackle auto detailing tasks, the characteristics are perfect for detailing the exteriors of vehicles. These pressure washers reach safe pressure levels up to 1500 psi, temperature levels up to 330F, and have low flow rates as low as 0.5 GPM.

Steam Cleaners: Portable steam cleaners are also great for cleaning windows and sanitizing steering wheels, dashboards, etc. Machines from reputable suppliers include a squeegee wand for cleaning glass and windows. In addition, sophisticated models feature advanced anti-bacterial elimination technology for eliminating more than 99 percent of germs and bacteria on the surface.

A car wash machine is used for auto detailing on a commercial basis. All maintenance contractors and car wash businesses look for a car wash machine that is powerful, long-lasting, and productive. The car wash machine should be affordable and have proper warranties.

To clean car interiors, both a carpet cleaner and a steam cleaner can be used.

Carpet Cleaners

While there are many types of carpet cleaners available on the market, you can narrow down the search for the perfect car washer machine using the following criteria:

Temperature: You can choose between a heated or non-heated carpet cleaner. A heated car wash machine clears away grease, wax, and stains while also removing odors and molds. A commercial carpet cleaning machine often attains temperature as high as 210 degrees Fahrenheit. For lightly soiled carpets, seat covers, and car rugs, you can use a non-heated car wash machine. Non-heated machines are less expensive and consume less power than hot water carpet cleaners. You also must keep in mind the type of carpet or fabric to be cleaned as expensive or handcrafted carpets cannot withstand very high temperatures. This is usually not an issue when cleaning vehicle interiors.
Water Efficiency: Low flow carpet cleaners use minimal water for cleaning. Most car washing businesses have turned to low flow machines because of their many advantages. Besides reducing water bills, these machines also reduce costs and labor associated with collection and disposal of dirty water. These machines are particularly useful if you need to clean cars in areas experiencing drought conditions.
Portability: This is an important criteria if you run a mobile car wash business or need to clean a large fleet. Portable car washer machines are wheeled units, while these are lightweight.
Drying Time: One of the drawbacks of using traditional carpet cleaning machines has been the extended time needed to dry the carpet. New models have certain mechanisms like low water consumption and high suction pressure to remove moisture almost completely from the carpet, reducing drying time to 2-6 hours.
Wand: Aside from walk-behind carpet cleaners, all carpet cleaning machines are equipped with wands for cleaning carpets and upholstery. A carpet cleaner used for auto detailing should have a smaller wand than regular carpet cleaning wands. This helps the user clean all corners of the car, including seat edges, backrest, and under the seats. It should preferably be of stainless steel As this makes the wand durable and corrosion resistant.
Storage Capacity: Large solution and recovery tanks facilitate longer work time.

Steam Cleaners

Steam cleaners use dry steam for dissolving dirt. After the application of steam, the dirt is scrubbed off with a detailing brush, squeegee, or microfiber towel. A portable steam cleaner offers additional car interior detailing by removing spots of grime, mold, and tiny food particles, among other residues, from dashboards, windshields, doorjambs, and more. High end mobile car wash equipment also removes pollen, bugs, pests, dust mites, dander, hair, and other allergens from the car interiors. Some steam cleaners are equipped with a special mechanism to kill bacteria. These machines are so effective that more than 99.9 percent germs are removed from the surface.

In these times of drought and strict regulations in using water for washing your car, it has become harder and harder for people to be able to keep their vehicles clean using a traditional hose and bucket technique. For gear heads, this can be a hard thing to deal with, since we hate seeing our cars all filthy and covered in grime.

Fortunately, car care companies already have developed a product to address this issue – a waterless car wash. They claim that you can wash your entire vehicle safely without scratching the paint and more importantly not using a single drop of water.

Can we do this safely without scratching the paint?

For this to work, you will need a lot of microfiber towels, depending on the size of your vehicle maybe around 5 to 10 towels, more if your vehicle is really dirty.

Have two towels in handy at all times, one to take out the dirt and the other to dry out excess waterless mixture. Start with the roof, spray a liberal amount of waterless wash solution on the surface and let it sit for a little bit to loosen up the dirt. With your first microfiber towel, gently wipe off the saturated part in a straight line. Do not go back and forth, you’ll just spread out the dirt. take your second microfiber towel then wipe off excess cleaner or dirt.

Do this process one section at a time until you finish. Don’t forget to clean the wheels too, spray the waterless cleaner on the wheels then wipe with a separate towel.

This will really work well to remove light dirt and grime on the car. I’m not so keen on using this on a very dirty car as you risk scratching the paint, although manufacturers claim otherwise. Using an optimum no rinse wash would be a better option for this.

It would be really hard to prevent scratches using this product on a very dirty vehicle as you can rub a big chunk of dirt on the paint and scratch it on the process, so be very careful when wiping the dirt off.

In conclusion, you can use this for light to moderately dirty vehicles. I still have my doubts on using this on very dirty vehicles because of the risk of scratching the paint. For non gear heads this may not be an issue with you. Lemme know what you think.

With the hectic schedules, it is not possible for everyone to clean their own vehicle. So, isn’t wonderful how systems can make your car neat and clean? Today, car wash business has grown to an optimum level. You can see various service providers have opened car wash building to serve car owners.

Washing your car through systems does not only save your time and energy from cleaning your own vehicles but gives you numerous advantages that give best results. Many service providers prefer these automatic systems rather than labors. The best thing about washing systems are that they will cost you nothing when not in operation.

These systems have various components that each works for a complex and unique task in cleaning a vehicle. There are four individual systems to make your choice from in today’s market. They are the Self service, Exterior roll over, Exterior only and the Full service wash. Self service systems consist of a pressure sprayer and a foaming brush which is joined to a large pump in the middle. The sprayer flows with a coin operated dial system which will help you to select what type of cleaning you want; a soap or a wax wash. Exterior roll over is another automatic system mostly prevalent in North East part of the US. In this system, you have to place your car into a channel bay. The front tire is positioned on a particular conveyor belt and you are asked to change your car to neutral. This belt takes the car right through the bay where the car undergoes all types of treatment with various types of equipments. The major equipment that is used for these systems are conveyors, prep and side washers, dryers and so on.

There are also many systems available with special features. Those units are mostly for industrial purpose where work is being performed continuously for hours. Car washes are normally either touch less or cloth friction. A touch-less car wash banks on high-powered jets of water and strong detergents to clean the car. In a car washing process, only the water and cleaning solutions actually come in physical contact with the car. In many ways, car wash equipment provides the best results for a clean and beautiful car that’s like brand new.

In addition, if you need these systems for your car wash business, you can choose from a wide range of affordable systems and green chemicals. But for more efficiency and quality, it is always important to choose the best equipments from reputable suppliers to achieve your business goals.

If you use your regular car wash soap to clean your wheels, you may discover that they are not as bright and shiny as they should be. That’s because car wash soaps are not strong enough to clean away brake dust, road tar and road grime. To properly clean your car, truck or SUV wheels you may need to use a cleaner that’s formulated for your type of wheel.

The finish on your car’s wheel will determine the type of cleaner you should use. Most wheels are either painted, powder coated, anodized, polished and clear coated, chromed or polished with no coating. If your wheels are chromed, you can use an acid-based wheel cleaner. For all other wheels, use a non-acid cleaner. If you are in doubt, look for a product that is for “all wheels.”

Professional car detailers commonly use acid-based cleaners because they clean very rapidly. If you are not accustomed to using strong cleaners, you are well advised to stay clear. Acid cleaners can damage painted, polished and anodized surfaces. A good acid-free cleaner is the best alternative for most car owners.

How-to Clean Tires & Wheels

For proper cleaning you will need a large bucket, a tire brush, a soft wheel brush, a sponge, a garden hose and nozzle, spray wheel cleaner, and your favorite car wash soap. As an alternative to car wash soap you can use Dawn dish washing liquid.

Caution: I don’t recommend cleaners containing bleach. You’ll find it in a number of over-the-counter products for whitewall tires. In my experience it causes tires to gray and become very dull looking. It may also discolor your alloy or polished wheels, so be careful!

Here are a few tips that I find make wheel cleaning a bit easier:

1. Clean and rinse one tire and wheel at a time.

2. To avoid water spots, clean your tires and wheels before washing the car.

3. Use a bucket of soapy water along with your wheel cleaner. This makes your wheel cleaner last longer and the soapy water lubricates to prevent scratching.

4. If your wheels are heavily soiled, spray liberally with wheel cleaner and allow time to soak before scrubbing (up to three minutes), but never allow the cleaner to dry.

5. Use proper brushes with additional soapy water to agitate the tire and wheel surface. Follow with your sponge to remove any remaining dirt film.

6. Use your wheel brush and soapy water to scrub the fender wells. This small detail keeps your car looking sharp.

7. Be sure to rinse the tire, wheel, brake caliper and fender well thoroughly with water. All cleaners need to be flushed away.

Your car is one of your most significant purchases, after your home, and although washing it may seem pretty basic, there are a few tips you should know to protect your investment.

Wash your car on a regular basis, not just when you have company coming to town or you plan to take your boss to dinner. Keeping your car clean and free from dirt and debris will cut down on rust and help to keep the value of your car up.

Cleaning the Outside

Choose a soft, automotive sponge and a sturdy bucket filled with cool water to tackle the car wash project but stay away from harsh cleaning solutions like dish or laundry soap that can harm the finish on your car. Better yet, invest in the myriad of top quality car care products like car wash soap, tire dressing, wheel cleaner and other products designed to clean your leather or vinyl interior.

- Choose a shady spot to wash your car, as direct sunlight can be absorbed by the finish of dark color cars and cause water spots.
- Start by soaking the car with cool water to remove excess dirt and debris from the finish.
- Rinse out the wheel wells to remove mud and dirt that may have become packed into the body and may lead to trapped moisture causing premature rust.
- Start at the top and work your way down the car.
- Use cool water as warm or hot water will remove applied car wax.
- Wash the tires as well as the wheels. Car wash soap and water will never damage a chrome or specialty wheel.
- Rinse the soapy water and towel dry. I have found a nice old soft bath towel does a wonderful job.

Special Note: The only thing that will remove tree sap from a car’s finish is cold water.

Dings and Scratches

As soon as you notice a small ding or scratch in the paint, use a dab of touch up paint. The touch up paint will help keep the spot from rusting. Larger dings, dents and scratches should also be taken care of as quickly as possible to avoid rust developing.

Touch up paint is available at most after market auto part supply shops, however, if you have a specialty color check with your dealer. They should be able to order a tube for a minimal cost.

Lubricate the Doors

Here’s a quick trick for getting the squeak out of your car doors. Use new motor oil on the joints of your hood, rear gate and doors to keep them adequately lubricated. Pour the oil in the bottom of the door and also run it between the layers of steel to avoid sticking and rusting. Some have found that shooting the oil into the holes in your doors is also helpful but keep it away from the window tracks to avoid oil smearing the glass.

For the best results use a pump can of motor oil that you can pick up at an auto parts store. However, avoid using old oil which contains acids that will cause your car to rust.

Don’t Forget the Inside

You’ve heard the phrase “carry in, carry out” related to camping or picnicking in a State or National park, but many find that same philosophy helpful when it comes to keep the inside of your car clean and free from clutter.

Here are a few more tips for cleaning the inside of your vehicle:

- Be prepared with plastic garbage bags in the glove box for trash and sealing organizer boxes for toys, tools and first aid supplies.
- Keep your carpet floor mats clean by covering them with inexpensive plastic floor mats that can easily be wiped clean.
- Multi-task: When buying fuel it is a great time to empty the trash in your car. Most gas stations have trash cans right by the fuel pumps so why not take advantage of them and get rid of the junk that may have accumulated.
- Sweep the carpet and dust the dashboard.
- Treat the leather or vinyl with products designed for the task.
- A damp, soft cloth is a great tool for dusting the dashboard without causing any damage.

Cleaning Stains from Upholstery

Before you can effectively clean a stain, you first need to identify what it is. Tar and oil stains will require a cleaner that is solvent based (Petroleum). Pour some of the solvent onto a cloth and lightly rub in a circle fanning out until it disappears. Repeat if necessary.

Food, soda and other non-petroleum based stains will respond best to mild soap and water. I have found an automotive product called Tuff Stuff that works great on everything from fabric to vinyl and carpet. However, it is not a solvent-based product so it won’t remove tar or oil stains.

Cleaning the Windows

There is nothing like looking through a clean windshield. Use a good glass cleaner and soft cloth when washing the windows. Try this trick – clean the inside of the windows with a horizontal motion and a vertical motion on the outside of the window. This way if there is a streak you can quickly identify which side of the window it is on.

Just in Case

Always have a pencil and paper in your car in case you should have an accident. Also, have all your car documents in a folder for easy access. Most cell phones are equipped with cameras, however, if yours isn’t, keep a disposable camera on hand to take pictures of the scene of the accident for use with the police or your insurance company.

My Car is TOO dirty – I Don’t Know Where to Start

If you have neglected the upkeep of your car, fear not. Invest in a car detailing for your automobile or truck. For a fee ranging from $75 – $150, they will clean your car like new and make it easier for you to maintain your vehicle going forward.

There is a lot of information out there on car care, auto detailing and the right (or wrong) products for each step in the process. This list of helpful car cleaning tips will help you get the job done right the first time and keep you from wasting time, money and water.

Do you know what the most versatile automotive cleaning product you already own is? Is it true that hot temperatures and bright sunlight are your worst enemy when washing your car? Read on for the answers to these questions and more.

Be responsible – Try a waterless car wash. A TON of water is wasted each time you take your car to the carwash or wash your car in the driveway at home. Beyond the obvious issue of wasting gallons and gallons (up to 140 per wash) of water, that water – and all of the chemicals, brake dust, tar, and other debris in it produce a toxic run-off that seeps back into the streams and other water sources in your neighborhood. Instead of wasting water and polluting your environment, try a naturally derived, spray-on-and-wipe-off car wash. The results are great, and your impact on the natural world is lessened significantly.

Microfiber towels are key – trash those old t-shirts and towels. Microfiber towels are the only way to go when cleaning your car. They are lint-free, will not cause scratches and will not cause streaks. Imagine your car’s windows and mirrors sparkling clean without even the slightest swirl or streak from your glass cleaner! High quality microfiber towels contain ultra-fine fibers that are machine knit to create tiny loops. These loops absorb a great deal more liquid than a regular cotton towel – they can hold 8 times their weight in water! Additionally, electrostatic properties in microfiber towels cause them to literally attract dust and dirt, which allows you to lift grime up and away from the surface, rather than just wiping it across it. The only downside to microfiber towels is that they do require special care. Microfiber towels should be washed with detergent only – NEVER use bleach or softener as it will destroy the electrostatic charge that is so helpful for cleaning. Also, the towels should be either hung to dry or dried on low or no heat to avoid melting the synthetic fibers. When cleaning with microfiber towels, spray your car care product onto the towel first, NOT directly onto the surface. This will keep over-spray onto other surfaces to a minimum and keep you from cleaning the same surface twice.

Don’t clean your car in the sun. If you can avoid it, never clean your car in direct sunlight or high temperatures. Whether you are washing the exterior of the vehicle, wiping down the dashboard, or polishing the windows, any liquid you spray on or in your car will evaporate very quickly in the sun or heat. Evaporation is an issue for two reasons. First, you’re putting the time and energy into cleaning the car – why make the job longer and more difficult by having to constantly re-spray and re-wipe areas over and over again? Even pure water will leave behind spots and streaks if it evaporates on the surface of your car. Second, consider the effect evaporation of chemicals can have when cleaning the interior of your car. The liquid turns to gas and is inhaled by you and your family members, posing a potentially serious health risk. If at all possible, clean your car in the shade to make the process more efficient and to avoid endangering your health. This is yet another reason to opt for non-toxic car care products.

Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. This might seem pretty obvious, but vacuuming as much of your vehicle as possible will make cleaning a lot easier. Don’t vacuum just the carpets and upholstery – get out those attachments and suck the dust off the dashboard and out of those little nooks and crannies. The more you vacuum up first, the less you’ll have to wipe down later. Always remember to vacuum first, before any other interior cleaning, so that you avoid re-contaminating freshly cleaned areas when the dust starts to fly.

You already own many great car cleaning tools. Think of all the items you have around the house that could make car cleaning easier. Q-tips are perfect for cleaning out those little spaces where dust accumulates, such as the air vents. Have some canned air on the computer desk? “Dust Off” is great for blasting dust off of your computer keyboard AND out of crevices in your car’s console, cup holders or other small spots. A soft paintbrush is a great tool for detailing your dashboard. Keep household items like these on hand for car cleaning and you’ll have a vehicle that’s been cleaned thoroughly and efficiently.

Don’t do the job twice – clean glass last. Cleaning your windows and mirrors last will prevent any re-contamination likely to occur from other car care products over-spraying onto the glass. Don’t forget to roll the window down halfway to clean the top edge of the glass, and try up-and-down, side-to-side strokes rather than a circular motion to ensure the entire window has been cleaned and polished.

Avoid any products containing ammonia or silicone. Ammonia and ammonia fumes cause plastic, rubber, vinyl and leather to crack and dry out, and it will also damage aftermarket window tinting. The last thing you want to do when trying to improve the appearance of your car is prematurely age it with ammonia! Some interior protectant products contain silicone, which will turn your dashboard and other surfaces yellow with time. Silicone also leaves behind a residue that will attract dust, causing you to have to clean more frequently.

Dishwashing detergent = NOT car wash. It is popularly believed that dishwashing liquid is a convenient substitute for car soap. Unfortunately, just like it can dry out your skin, it also dries out the paint on your car by stripping away the polymers. Regular use of dishwashing detergent as car wash will accelerate the oxidization of the paint, causing it to look old, flat, and dull. Avoid ruining your car’s paint – opt for a waterless car wash.

You don’t need a clay bar to remove dried-on tree sap. Don’t have a clay bar? Don’t even know what a clay bar is? Not a problem. There are incredibly powerful all-purpose automotive cleaners on the market that can tackle hard to clean spots like bird droppings, bugs and fresh tree sap, but for dried-on sap, use mineral spirits. Apply mineral spirits to the spot and then very gently wipe the sap away with a quality microfiber towel. Be sure to be as gentle as possible while wiping up and away from the car’s surface.

White vinegar is a car care cure-all! White vinegar is undoubtedly the most versatile cleaning agent you probably already own. It can be used to clean those winter salt stains from your car’s carpets, eliminate odors, polish chrome, prevent frost from forming on your car’s windows, and clean the grime off your wipers that causes them to drag across the windshield and blur your view. It can also remove even the nastiest messes from your car, including chewing gum from carpeting and old stickers from your bumper. Here are some handy recipes:

- Remove salt stains from carpets – mix equal parts white vinegar and water. Apply to the stain and wipe away with a microfiber towel.

- Polish chrome wheels with full strength white vinegar and a microfiber towel. Use a second towel to buff your chrome to a bright shine.

- Prevent frost from forming on your windows – mix 3 parts white vinegar and 1 part water in a spray bottle. Spray your windshield and windows at night and wake up to frost-free windows!

- Remove chewing gum on carpeting and old bumper stickers – apply full strength white vinegar to the area. Allow it to fully saturate the problem spot and then gently loosen and remove. Use an old card to scrape off stickers.

- Eliminate odors – mix 1 part white vinegar to 20 parts water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution into your car’s air intake and then run the AC at full blast for 10 minutes.

- Stop windshield wiper blurring – apply full strength white vinegar to a microfiber towel and wipe down the length of your wiper blades several times to remove dirt and debris.
